Over 2,800 km of fibre optical cables will be installed,moving some 7,200km of distribution lines underground reducing technical & commercial losses by 30%,install 1,700 automated ring main units to monitor & control distribution line switch gears etc.

Kapoor, representing Uttar Pradesh Chess Association won in online elections.Naresh Sharma was elected as treasurer.It was the first time since 2005 that AICF elections saw a contest as candidates were chosen unanimously in the last 15 years.

Centre’s draft notification declares Eco Sensitive Zone(ESZ) around Mathikettan Shola National Park,Kerala.

One kilometre (17.5 square kilometre) area around the Park declared as ESZ.Restrictions on construction activities,area cannot be transferred for commercial or industrial use & eco tourism projects must be prepared according to the zonal master plan.

40th Indian scientific expedition to Antarctica launched

The chartered ice-class vessel MV Vasiliy Golovnin will begin this journey from Goa on Jan 5 & will reach Antarctica in 30 days.After leaving team of 40 members, it would return to India in April 2021 bringing back the winter team of preceding trip.

Vietnam buys Indian rice for first time in decades

Indian traders have been contracted to export 70,000 tonnes of 100% broken rice for Jan & Feb shipments at around $310 per tonne on a free-on-board (FOB) basis. Local prices jumped to their highest in 9 years amid limited domestic supplies in Vietnam.

3 super critical equipment(Ethylene Oxide Reactor, Wash Tower & De-ethyleniser) indigenously manufactured from L&Ts Hazira plant will be delivered to MEG plant being setup (an investment of Rs 5,654 crore) at refinery-cum-petrochemical complex at Paradip.
