NExT 2023 – National Exit Test for MBBS Students to be Held

National Medical Council (NMC) will begin conducting the National Exit Test (NeXT) exam for final year MBBS students by 2023, according to top sources close to the development. Several sources added that the exam’s broad modalities have been finalized. The National Exit Test (NExT) exam has created a major storm on Twitter, after a rumored excerpt has gone viral causing concerns and memes to rage. According to the viral snapshot of the excerpt, “With regards to implementation of National Exit Test (NEXT), the Chairman NMC informed that broad modalities for the exam had been worked out. The exam will be conducted in two steps during 2023.

This NExT test, which the government intends to use to standardise medical education in the country, was introduced by NMC in the bill passed last year. There will no longer be a NEET PG or FMGE exam.

Future Of NEET PG

A candidate who has completed MBBS in India or abroad will be able to sit for NExTexam to obtain a license. Furthermore, it will serve as a gateway to admission into postgraduate educational programs in broad-speciality medicine. To gain the license for practising as a doctor in India, MBBS graduates must complete their final internship. Furthermore, Foreign Medical Graduates (FMGs) have to pass the exam after it is operational in order to be registered with State Medical Councils to practice as doctors in India.

Moreover, the NExT PG will be used in lieu of NEET PG for admission to MD, MS, DM, MCh programs when it gets started.

NExT 2023 Overview

The apex medical regulator has not made any official announcement regarding the conduct of the examination, but a photo of the notice showing up on social media suggests the exam will be conducted from 2023 onwards in two stages: NExT Step 1 and NExT Step 2.

A storm has apparently hit social media due to this uncertainty. The hashtag #NExT 2023 is now trending. There’s still confusion about the NMC, and there’s a meme/meme-fest going on about NMC.

Steps Taken For NExT 2023

Indian medical education regulator, the National Medical Commission, took a decision on this issue on June 10.ย  After the commission passed a resolution establishing an examination cell, several steps are being taken to expedite the approval process. In about six months, the picture should become clearer. For NEET (PG), a score of 50 percentile is required.

According to multiple sources, this move is part of the central government’s plan for a single exam for the entire nation. As part of NeXT, you will take an online exam based on the syllabus of undergraduate medical programs. The NExT question papers will only contain multiple-choice questions.
