CalTech Admissions

CalTech Admissions Information

CalTech, is a renowned hub for science and technology enthusiasts. If you’re considering joining our community of innovators and scholars, it’s important to be well-informed about our admissions process. Here is a guide for you through the key details you need to know about CalTech Admissions.

When to Apply and Early Application?

CalTech follows a regular decision application deadline for most applicants, typically in early January. You can expect admissions decisions to be released in late March. However, for those who are absolutely certain that CalTech is their dream university, we offer a Restrictive Early Action (REA) option. REA applications are due in early November, with admission decisions coming by mid-December. Importantly, REA is non-binding, giving you the flexibility to explore other options as well.

CalTech Admissions: Application Requirements

To embark on your journey at CalTech, you’ll need to prepare and submit several materials:

  1. Application: You can choose to apply through the Common Application, Coalition Application, or Questbridge Application. Take your pick; all three are accepted here.
  2. School Report: Your high school college counselor will send this document to CalTech. It provides valuable context about your school, and you can request your counselor to complete it through any of the three application platforms. Additionally, your counselor will submit a letter of recommendation on your behalf.
  3. Application Fee or Fee Waiver: There’s a $75 non-refundable application fee, but don’t worry if this poses a financial burden. We offer fee waivers for eligible students who can demonstrate financial need.
  4. High School Transcripts: Ensure you send us your official transcripts that chronicle your academic journey throughout high school.
  5. Standardized Test Scores: Here’s some great news – we have a test-optional policy. While you’re not obliged to submit SAT or ACT scores, if you believe your scores reflect your abilities accurately, you’re welcome to include them.
  6. Letters of Recommendation: CalTech requires two letters of recommendation from teachers who can speak to your academic abilities, personal qualities, and potential for success at our university.
  7. Personal Statement and Short Answers: Your personal statement is your chance to shine, so craft it thoughtfully. Tell us about your unique qualities, experiences, and aspirations. Additionally, we have a few short-answer questions that help us understand your fit with CalTech.

Additional Requirements and Considerations

For international students, English Proficiency Exam scores are a must, unless English is your native language or the primary language of instruction at your secondary school. You can choose to take the Duolingo English Test (DET), IELTS, or the TOEFL. Just remember to complete the exam before our application deadline.
