International Airlines Operating In India
The list below includes some of the prominent international airlines operating in India.
Emirates Airlines: A major airline of the Middle East, it connects an extensive network of international routes. The airline has been providing commercial passenger service since 1985. It covers 150 destinations across six continents and maintains a fleet of 249 aircrafts.
Qatar Airways: One of the fastest growing airlines, it has received “five star airline” status from Skytrax, a UK-based consultancy. Qatar Airways made history in 2003 when it became the first airline to pass IATA’s stringent IOSA safety audit. Since its inception on November 22, 1993, it has grown into one of the most competing airlines.
Lufthansa Airlines: A premier airline, it boasts of having the third largest passenger airline fleet in the world. Over the years, Lufthansa Airlines has expanded its operations with mergers and acquisitions. At present, the flag carrier of Germany flies to 18 domestic destinations and 193 international destinations across 81 countries.
Air Arabia Airlines: This airline based in Sharjah has been listed on the Dubai financial market. It was established on 3rd February 2003 and became the first low carrier in the region. Air Arabia Airlines has created joint ventures at Jordan, Morocco, Nepal and Egypt.
Etihad Airways: Founded in July 2003 it has a fleet of 111 passenger aircrafts. Etihad Airways is the national airline of United Arab Emirates and its main base is Abu Dhabi International Airport. The passenger aircraft features First Class, Business Class and Economy class cabin configurations. In 2014, several new cabins have been introduced on the plane which includes The Residence, a suite which accommodates two customers.
Thai Airways: Formed in 1960, this airlines was a joint venture between Thai Airways Company and Scandinavian Airlines System. The airlines started intercontinental services with flights to Australia which was followed by flights to Europe and North America. This airline is based in Bangkok and primarily operates out of Suvarnabhumi Airport.
Air France Airlines: This airline is a French flag carrier with headquarters in Tremblay-en-France. It is one of the subsidiaries of Air France-KLM group. This airline was formed on 7th October 1933 with a merger of five airlines at that time. Air France Airlines has been ranked as the largest airline in the world in terms of operating revenue.
British Airways: Based on the fleet size this airline is recognized as the largest in United Kingdom. Additionally, it is the flag carrier airline of United Kingdom. With privatization, the airline moved into a phase of unprecedented growth which led to the use of the slogan “The World’s Favorite Airline” primarily being used for it. Its primary hubs are London’s Heathrow and Gatwick airport.
Singapore Airlines: Since its inception in 1972, Singapore airlines has come a long way. It flies to destinations spanning across six continents. Singapore airlines was one among the first to offer choice of meals, free drinks and free headsets in economy class in 1970s. In February 2004, it created a record by launching the world’s longest non-stop commercial flight, A340-500 from Singapore to Los Angeles.
Malaysia Airlines: Formed in 1937, Malaysia Airlines is the flag carrier of Malaysia. It mostly operates from Kota Kinabalu International Airport (BKI), Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL) and Kuching International Airport. It flies to 80 destinations worldwide and has been recognized as “World’s leading Airline to Asia” from World Travel Awards in 2011. It is ideal for frequent flyers as you do not have to compromise on the services even if you want to travel for less.
Cathay Pacific Airlines: Since its inception in 1946, Cathay Pacific has won various awards in the aviation industry. Its fleet is one of the youngest and most modern and comprises of 130 aircrafts. It holds the record of being one among six airlines to carry a “five-star” rating from Skytrax. If you decide to fly first class you will get recliner seats which offer both privacy and comfort.
